]]>Past Lives came into the night as one of the most-nominated films and walked away with the ceremony’s most coveted accolade. It defeated the likes of Passages, Reality, Showing Up, and A Thousand and One to be named best feature at this year’s Gotham Awards.
As for Anatomy of a Fall, Justine Triet’s latest film emerged victorious in two categories. It defeated the likes of All of Us Strangers and Poor Things to walk away with the trophy for the best international feature, in addition to winning the award for best screenplay.
The TV field at this year’s Gotham Award included some worthy contenders, but none of them could stand their ground to Netflix’s Beef. This series won two awards: breakthrough series under 40 minutes and outstanding performance in a new series (Ali Wong)—while A Small Light was named the best breakthrough series over 40 minutes.

]]>Anatomy of a Fall gripped the Cannes audience with its thrilling story about a German writer who finds herself in the middle of an intense murder trial after her husband is found dead in the snow below their secluded chalet in the French Alps.
Triet joins the exclusive company of Jane Campion and Julia Ducournau as the third woman to ever claim this prestigious award, and she dedicated it to all the young directors trying to make an impact today.
“We must give them the space I occupied 15 years ago in a less hostile world where it was still possible to make mistakes and start again,” said Triet in her acceptance speech.
The Cannes Film Festival returned to the French Riviera between May 16-27 and introduced us to some of the year’s most anticipated films. Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest won the prestigious Grand Prix, while Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves walked away with the Jury Prize.
